Charles Lord served as Acting Comptroller during the period between the departure of James E. Smith, the 23rd Comptroller of the Currency and arrival of John G. Heimann, the 24th Comptroller.
Mr. Lord joined the OCC as an assistant national bank examiner in 1949. In 1951, he left the agency to join the Hartford National Bank and Trust Company, where he became president and chief executive officer. He rejoined the Comptroller’s Office in 1979 and became First Deputy Comptroller in April 1981. In that role, he traveled extensively to meet with bank CEO’s and senior management to discuss issues including the impact of the Regulation Q interest rate cap on money market funds and bank branching.
Mr. Lord was born in New York City on April 26, 1928. He graduated from Yale University in 1949.
