William A. Rowe Named Chief Risk Officer

WASHINGTON — The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency announced today that William A. Rowe has been named its Chief Risk Officer, effective immediately.

Mr. Rowe fills the position vacated by Linda Cunningham in April 2017 when she retired.

As Chief Risk Officer, Mr. Rowe will lead the agency’s Office of Enterprise Risk Management and the agency’s Enterprise Risk Committee. Under his direction, the Office of Enterprise Risk Management supports an agency-wide view of risks and evaluates adherence to the agency’s risk appetite statement. The Enterprise Risk Committee includes the Comptroller of the Currency and the Executive Committee members and discusses risks facing the agency to ensure that key decisions and actions consider the OCC’s enterprise risk profile and appetite.

Mr. Rowe also will continue to serve as Liaison to the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation.

“Bill brings a broad perspective to this new role,” said Acting Comptroller of the Currency Keith A. Noreika. “He has ably served Comptrollers Dugan and Curry on FDIC matters and as the deputy for their Chiefs of Staff, and brings a unique agency-wide view to this important role.”

Mr. Rowe has served as Deputy to the Chief of Staff and Liaison to the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation since 2006. He served as the Executive Assistant to the Senior Deputy Comptroller for Midsize and Community Bank Supervision from 2002 to 2006 and as the Executive Assistant to the Senior Deputy Comptroller Bank Supervision Operations from 1999 to 2002.

Mr. Rowe joined the OCC in 1992 after more than 12 years in the banking industry. He was commissioned as a National Bank Examiner in 1995 after becoming a Certified Public Accountant in 1994 and was credentialed as a Federal Savings Association Examiner in 2015. He is a graduate of Towson University and holds an MBA in finance from Loyola University Maryland.
