Gil Barker Named Deputy Comptroller of Southern District

WASHINGTON — The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency announced today that Gil Barker has been named Deputy Comptroller for the OCC's Southern District.

Mr. Barker succeeds Deputy Comptroller Jeri Gilland, who is retiring, and he will report to Timothy W. Long, Senior Deputy Comptroller for Mid-Size/Community Banks. In his new position, Mr. Barker will oversee 20 offices and 400 employees in nine states. The Southern District is responsible for the supervision of about 600 banks.

"Gil will be a great fit with the Southern District" said Mr. Long. "His management abilities and his understanding of the issues and complexities of the banks in the District will be of great benefit to the agency as well as the industry."

Mr. Barker began his career with OCC in 1978. For the past 10 years, he has served as Assistant Deputy Comptroller in the Central District. Previously, he served as Field Manager in the Wausau/Eau Claire Duty Station, as Manager for Special Supervision in the former Midwestern District Office, and as Field Manager in Tampa, Florida.

Mr. Barker is a 1978 graduate of Western Michigan University with a degree in Accounting. He also completed the Graduate School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin, and the Midwest Banking Institute at the University of Minnesota-Morris.
