Comptroller’s Corner: An Engaged Workforce is Essential to Our Mission
From September 9 through 27, the OCC will conduct its first all-employee engagement survey. Engagement is a measure of an employee’s attachment to the job, to their colleagues, and to their organization.
We are conducting this survey for a number of reasons.
Engaged employees are enthusiastic about their work and act in a way that furthers their organization’s interests. They perform at consistently high levels, they create stronger customer relationships, they are less likely to be involved in a safety incident, and are less likely to leave the organization. They are also more likely to suggest or develop creative ideas to improve business processes.
In addition, the OCC Engagement Survey supports our Aligning, Engaging, and Leading strategic initiatives, and it complements the feedback we receive from you on the Office of Personnel Management Federal Employee Viewpoint Survey. It furthers efforts to align our culture with our vision of being the preeminent bank supervisor. And most important, it provides workgroups with local business unit level results that they can use to develop actions to address areas of opportunity raised in the survey.
Two-way feedback, trust in leadership, shared decision making, an emphasis on career development, and an understanding on the part of employees of how they fit into the big picture and what they must do to help the organization succeed are distinguishing characteristics of an engaged organization.
An engaged workforce is essential to the OCC’s continued success, and this is why I encourage you to participate in the OCC Engagement Survey. By voicing your opinions about the OCC, your organization, and your job, you are enabling your workgroup to substantiate the good work being done and identify the areas of opportunity to promote productivity, retention, and morale.
